PHOENIX, AZ—HOW BUTTERBEES CAME TO BEE!  authors Lana and Tania Bloch, whose enchanting book is illustrated by former Disney artist David Michener, were chosen to receive the coveted MOM’S CHOICE AWARD by an august group of judges including Julie Aigner-Clark, creator of Baby Einstein, Maria Housden, best-selling author of Hannah’s Gift, and Terry Doherty, founder of The Reading Tub Twila C. Liggett, Ph.D., Creator/Executive Producer, PBS’ Reading Rainbow, and honorary judge for the Moms Choice Awards, will present the award to Lana Bloch at Book Expo America at the Jacob Javits Center in New York, Friday, June 3rd at 3 p.m.  The Arizona Republic wrote in April:  “‘Butterbees’ live in harmony!”  Tribune newspapers added:  “The Butterbees take some of the sting out of intolerance.”  The book and plush have been endorsed by the National Anti-Defamation League and is recommended reading at several school districts throughout the United States.  The book, toys and backpack earned the prestigious iParenting Media Award for 2004 Best Products.  HOW BUTTERBEES CAME TO BEE! is a delightfully illustrated children’s book which teaches children to accept the differences in others and celebrate their own individuality. The book also won the Ben Franklin/Bill Fisher Excellence Award for Independent Publishers Best First Book FICTION.  For more information go to www.butterbees.com

"We are honored and humbled to be nominated for this award by such a distinguished group of judges," Lana Bloch remarked.

“Growing up as we did in South Africa, we saw the damage of prejudice first-hand,” Bloch continued. “We envisioned this book with the idea that if children at the earliest ages were taught to appreciate and accept, even celebrate their differences, we might all have a much better world.  With that in mind the Butterbees came to life.  Butterbees encourage kids to discover their gifts and talents."
